Knowledge Bomb: Magic Bullets and Trick Shots

By Meeker | March 12th, 2012 | Categories: Meeker, Warhammer 40k Articles & News

Welcome to the segment here on Spikey Bits, where I go over some rules clarifications and “gotchas” for 5th Edition.

I realize that there may only be less than a year left for this rules set, but there is still tons of time for gaming!

Not to mention there are a  few big tournaments left to attend as well.  So let’s get to it shall we?

Today’s post is by Meeker and it’s kinda funny, in a sad way… –MBG

Ever been in a situation where you want to shoot your artillery at something to it’s side, but all the enemy anti-tank is straight ahead?

Well kiddies, gather around and let me tell you about the trick shot…

As everyone knows, a lot of vehicle mounted barrage weapons are hull mounted. But fewer know that this means something like a Manticore can shoot at any target on the table that is within range…even at something behind it.
Wait. What?

You’re probably thinking that hull mounted weapons have a 45° arc of sight. You’re correct in that assessment, but the key is that it’s an arc of sight.

Barrage means that it doesn’t need line of sight. You could shoot a hull mounted barrage weapons backwards or hard to starboard and the only consequence is that the shot is made indirectly. If you use Griffons, you can even use their special rule to offset the indirect drawback.

I know there are going to be a lot of people that are going to argue with this Knowledge Bomb, screaming that it doesn’t make sense. I agree, but that’s how its written.
