Confusing Reports From GW on Citadel Air?

Come see the confusion that may be reigning high at Games Workshop about the new Citadel Airbrush Paints.

I spoke with several retailers this week around the world, and there seems to be some confusion amongst the various GW trade sales teams about the new citadel air range.

One retailer told me that he was not getting the new paint line, and that it was ATO only (Special Order Only). Furthermore his rep indicated to him that the studio was not happy with the pots as they were not dropper bottles and they were only doing this release as a “limited run” only.

Another retailer reported that he was selected to carry the new paints, AND that he would be able to re-order the paints for the near future.

Yet another retailer report confirmed the first story, and said that he was told GW isn’t even giving these to their own stores!

Confused? Me too. I just want the new airbrush paints dammit.

Now don’t get me wrong, in theory these new paints seem like a good product and it’s very unfortunate that such a seemingly good product is having such a bumpy roll out.

Yes there is no dropper bottle, but rarely do the paints I personally airbrush with even have a dropper themselves (P3, and GW Regular Paints) to be honest so for me atleast that is not a detractor. I can see how some of the new hobbyists our there would want the dropper bottle though, and totally agree that a “dedicated” airbrush line should probably have them.

Take these reports with a few grains of salt folks, there is no definite word on whats going on until the paints hit the stores this weekend!

Here’s the latest from Games Workshop on the new paints

The Citadel Air range includes 51 paints, a paint thinner and an airbrush cleaner. The paints are identical in colour (and name) to their Layer or Base counterparts, but specially formulated to be used with an airbrush. This means all you need to do is undercoat your model as normal, load your chosen Air paint into an airbrush and spray away for that perfect basecoat or blended layer. If you make any tiny painting mistakes later on, simply tidy up your work with the Layer or Base paint of the same name. Citadel Air: Steel Legion Drab is the same colour as Citadel Base: Steel Legion Drab, for example. It’s that simple.
