Well the cat is officially out of the bag now, Games Workshop is making the rounds this morning getting retailers product information on the new Deathwatch game- come see!
After getting everyone whipped up in a new product release frenzy with no concrete information, it looks like Games Workshop is FINALLY opening up on the new boxed set!
Over 40 new miniatures are headed our way this week in the new Deathwatch: Overkill boxed set!

Deathwatch: Overkill is a standalone game with lots of new Space Marine and Genestealers Cult (Tyranid) miniatures that can also be used in a regular Warhammer 40.000 game. DEATHWATCH: OVERKILL – WHAT’S IN THE BOX?
A brand new game in a box, telling the story of the discovery of the Warhammer 40.000 Genestealers Cult (Tyranids). The box contains:
50x brand new highly detailed plastic miniatures, with lots of little details depicting character background information.
The miniatures have a dynamic single pose and will require glue and assembly (they are not push fit). The miniatures can be divided into two camps:

A brand new Warhammer 40.000 fraction! The below list of miniatures make for addition to an original Tyranid army, an allied detachment to another army, or a great start for a brand new Tyranids army! This box contains the following Genestealers Cult miniatures

? A 48-page rulebook with all the rules (just 3 pages, so it will be easy and quick game), character explanation, the background story, and 9x different missions. ? A deck of 12x reference character cards and 30x Broodmind ambush and mission cards, to offer even more variation to the game so that each game will be different.

Wow that’s quite the spicy hobby meatball right there. First off there is one BIG thing missing: the price. We’re still missing the actual MSRP for the box set itself. That being said, in this message GW seems to be dropping hits of what they value the set at itself (11x individual Space Marine Veteran Champions – equivalent to approximately ? 215 / € 275 retail normally).
Here’s some tidbits written in GW jargon that stood out to me:
- The rules for the Space Marines will be in White Dwarf 109 and for the Tyranids in White Dwarf 110 – More and more GW doesn’t put any miniature our without rules. This is a great boon for the hobby, but an interesting “tell” from a company that maintains it’s just a “miniatures company”, and that “over 80% of it’s customers are collectors”.
- In addition the datasheets will be available from our website – This is new. Traditionally GW always wants folks to pay for their rules. Are we seeing a tipping point in their outlook, or are they banking on re-releasing each of the Space Marine veterans at a later date?
- A dynamic single pose and will require glue and assembly (they are not push fit) – Sounds like theses Space Marine models may just be on their own separate spruce, and come ready for re-packaging and a new individual clampack roll-out at a later date.
Wow, talk about big damn heroes! There is so much potential for these figures, the conversion and hobby possibilities are amazing. Plus these models literally can be used for a slew of existing special characters from Khan to Shrike, if you want a Space Marine hero in plastic this box may be the perfect place to start – especially if they try to re-release these figures later on at $30 a pop!
