Starting A New 40k Army – Skitarii Beginner’s List

Looking to start a force worthy of the Omnissiah? Well look no further than today’s How To feature on Starting Skitarii!

The Adeptus Mechanicus is one of my favourite armies in 40k due to its rich, grimdark and mysterious background storyline. In a recent article on my blog, I went into detail about some of the combos and strategies available to Skitarii players.

However before we dive into some of the finer points of fielding Skitarii, let’s take a look at an army list that I came up with, specifically designed for helping people to get started with the robed techpriests of Mars.

Skitarii Maniple (745/750)

Troops
– 5x Vanguard + 1x Arc rifles
– 5x Vanguard + 1x Arc rifles
– 5x Vanguard + 1x Transonic arquebus
– 5x Vanguard + 1x Transonic arquebus

Elites
– 10x Sicarian infiltrators

Heavy Support
– Onager Dunecrawler + Neutron laser and cognis heavy stubber

This list is pretty good for two reasons. The first reason is its’ tactical flexibility: it can take on almost any kind of opponent from Tactical Marines to Terminators and Land Raiders, although it is weak against flyers.

The second reason it’s a worthwhile list for beginners to the codex, is because it’s based on the Start Skitarii box-set, which comes with a Techpriest Dominus, ten infantrymen which can either be kitted out to work as Vanguard or Rangers, and an Onager Dunecrawler.

There are also some pretty neat combos and special rules that apply to the army. For example there are some sneaky ways to deny your opponent of their overwatch shots, before charging in with your Infiltrators.
