How Good Are The New Ships? Armada Breakdown!

After waiting what seemed like ages, Armada fans have been rewarded for their loyalty! We finally have some new big ships to play with. 

The crazy Interdictor and stoic Mon Calamari Liberty are now in the Armada Wave IV expansions! Let’s take a tactical overview of these ships.

The Interdictor cruiser is a medium base ship for the Imperial faction that is an impressive support ship. It is able to manipulate the battle field at a whim with its gravity-well projectors.

It’s upgrades allow it to alter enemy deployments as well as maneuvers. The G7-X Grav Well Projector for instance allows you to place a token anywhere on the battle field before the deployment phase. If a ship is deployed within range 1-3 of that token, its speed must be set to zero. This allows you to control where your enemy will deploy as well as where his maneuvers will be plotted. This is a huge advantage as much of the skill associated with this game falls along your ability to perform maneuvers that put you at strategic lead.

The G-8 Experimental Projector allows your to reduce an enemy ship’s speed by 1 when it activates at range 1-5 of your ship. Combine this with Tractor Beams and you can halt all enemy movement within range of your Interdictor!

The Liberty is a large based ship that is for the Rebel faction. It’s impressive firepower is its most notable feature, with a mighty 7 dice attack out of its front hull zone with a compliment of 5 shields as well. This is the Star Destroyer that the Rebels have been hoping for. This ship is made to point and shoot.

General Crix Madine makes his debut in the Liberty expansion and he adds an element of surprise to your fleet. Much like Admiral Ozzel of the Imperial faction, General Madine allow you to spend a maneuver dial to increase the yaw value of a ship by 1 additional click.

This ensures that all your guns will be pointed towards their intended targets. Spend a maneuver token and your are allowed to increase your speed by an additional 1 or add 1 additional yaw. This is great for the Rebels as they have yet to have many maneuver upgrades come their way. The new Veteran Gunners card is simply stunning, in that it allows you to reroll all dice in your attack pool! No more whiffs when firing your big guns!
